Stuff.

So, it's pretty much Autumn now, right? Yay! Autumn means cool weather, pretty colours, warm snuggly clothes and nommy comforting food. Autumn always makes me feel pretty nostalgic, though I'm not sure why. I've been listening to a lot of "old" music recently, thinking of good times, of friendships lost. It's not getting me down or anything, there's not any hard feelings involved, it's just sometimes we lose touch with people. I'm normally terrible at keeping in touch, but I've done everything I can in this case, it's just not been reciprocated. This person was like family to me, and I just really want to be involved in their life, for the good bits and the bad. I guess even platonic love sucks, ha. Ok, so it is making me a bit sad. I'm fine really though. It makes me want to keep the friends I have now closer. I see my friends as an extended family, and I should show them how much they mean to me. They rock my socks.

I went to visit my lovely friend in Canterbury last week, and it was awesome. We were so busy either rabbiting or sleeping that I didn't actually get to go inside the Cathedral, or to the seaside. Which was a bit of a shame, but it was nice just to have a change of scenery. And I got to spend a few hours on the train, which I find strangeley enjoyable. Hopefully I'll get a chance to go down again sometime before Xmas. Apparently there's a nice German style market that goes on, with big sausages and mulled wine and everything. How good does that sound, huh? The rest of my holiday was spent doing...very little, really. Apart from going to The Room screening, but I think I already rambled about that. You should see it, if you haven't already. It's awesome...ly bad. Oh, and I went to the MCM Cosplay Roadshow in Cheshunt. It was mostly sugar fuelled teens being silly, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I got to play Dance Dance Revolution for the first time, and although I sucked at it and looked a complete fool, I enjoyed it immensely. I now want to get a copy for the Wii, and look like a fool in the comfort of my living room. DDR party anyone? :D And now I'm back at work. Not much to say about that really. It's my day off today, and I'm attempting to do some productive crafty things, but I'm getting frustrated with myself for not getting things right first time. I realised how silly I was being, so I took a break, and here I am. I think I've pretty much run out of things to talk about now. 11 days until Mike comes home. I hope he's ok, haven't heard much from him recently.
But let's end on a high note. I've become (re)obsessed with Ralph Wiggum. And this song is made of pure win.
<lj-embed id="7" />

The Room

I headed into the West End yesterday evening, spoon earrings in my lobes, plastic teaspoons to hand, to watch The Room on the big screen. It was immensely fun. My nerves kicked in on the way there. My friend was unable to come at the last minute, and I've never seen a movie on my own at a regular screening at a local cinema. So heading into town on my own for something that requires participation? Scary stuff! Until I realised I was being completely stupid. So what if I'd never been there before, so what that I'd be sitting by myself, who cares? Everyone there would be there for the same reason; to shout at the characters, quote the lines, "storm out" in protest and throw plastic spoons. And that we all did. It was fantastic, I felt a strange sense of community.
The only disappointment was not being able to go for drinks afterwards with the other Roomies (I don't know if that's the official name, but it's what I'm using.) The host had said there would be drinks at a pub afterwards, but by the time I made it outside there was no indication of anything happening. I guess I missed it? Maybe next time. So I headed home feeling great. I sang Happy Birthday to and high fived a random girl on the escalator at Leicester Square, I smiled at other random strangers and they smiled back. Maybe they thought I was mad, or high, but who the hell cares? Not me, I felt great. And for my tea on the way home I had a pack of paprika flavour crisps. I hadn't had them in years, they were delicious and made me a bit nostalgic, in a good way.

The plan is to make these screenings a monthly event, and the next one is planned for 3rd of October. If you're able to make it, I highly recommend it. I suggest buying tickets in advance, there were some disappointed people being turned away yesterday. Tickets should go on sale here in the next few days. Keep checking!

<lj-embed id="6" />

Yesterday was fun. Good company, good food, plenty of lipstick, a creepy horror movie child, accidently pulling the handle off the back door and getting locked out at 3am whilst rather drunk, and walking through Enfield Town with no shoes on. Good times!

Boobs and Wasps

I got stuck in traffic on the way home. Not sure what was up with that. Then half way to Enfield the driver decided to kick us all off. When I was waiting for the next bus, a wasp landed on my boob. Pretty much over the nipple. Fortunately, I don't spaz much over these things now, and I managed to calmly nudge the wasp onto a lamp post. It earned me a few bewildered looks, unsurprisingly. It's not every day you see someone rubbing one of their boobs against a lamp post.

The naughtiest word?

Fair warning: this post is about the "c word" and it's use. It's not censored out after the cut. Perhaps you don't like and/or are offended by it. Perhaps you should read anyway, and think about why you don't like it. The main body of the post is actually a comment I posted on another journal. It summed up my views perfectly, and since that doesn't happen very often with me, I decided to repost it here.
Cunt is just like any other swear to me, really. It's just a word. Is a word itself really offensive? I personally don't think so. It's the drive behind the word, the emotion of the speaker that makes it offensive. Just like any word. Let's take hate as an example. I've had someone tell me they hate me because my hair grows quickly, and other petty things. That's not offensive, it's just a turn of phrase. If someone told me that they absolutely, truely hate me, I'd be offended and upset.
As for the misogynist connotation, I think you're right. Men do sometimes use this word with the intention of belittling and degrading women. I've been called a cunt in this context, and it did hurt. That was only about 2 years ago, and my view on the word has changed significantly since then, because I realised that it was my feelings that gave him the power to make that word offensive. It's like bullying, really. The "victim" has the power to take away any power the bully thinks they have.
People don't get up in arms about the word dick, and I think that's pretty much the male equivalent word. So as a woman, I'm choosing to not be offended by it. I'm claiming back my word.
Discuss.
Bruno

So, Mike and I went to see Bruno last night. It's the second film I've ever walked out of (we left during the swinger's party scene. I'm no prude, but that made me uncomfortable.) My advice is don't bother. It was all for shock, and 99% of the "humor" is at the level of a rather stupid 13 year old boy, i.e. "gay, gay, penis, gay, boobies, gay, bum, gay." Shame, because Borat was actually funny, it didn't rely purely on the shocks. You could get the same experience online for free.

Hibernation

Is it Autumn yet? I've gone into this mood where I want to stay in wearing my pjs and fluffy socks with tea. It's an Autumn evening mood, but a tad too early. I just sort of want to be on my own a bit. I'm not depressed or even sad, I just feel like snuggling up and resting. Oh wells, I'm sure it'll pass. I'm trying not to give in to it too much, so I've been cleaning the house today. Ceiling Cat knows it needs it. I've evicted so many spiders and dust bunnies, and I've only tackled the kitchen so far. I think I'll be doing laundry constantly for the next week just to catch up. Oh well, that'll teach me to be lazy. And Mike is taking me to see Bruno tonight, so that'll be nice.

Work has picked up a little. I think because I remind myself constantly that it's a means to an end. That, and I don't get paid enough to stress.
That's about it, really. Got some craft projects lined up, just need to actually focus on them and get them done. After work tomorrow, I think.

A good day

I spent the day wandering round Covent Garden, in the beautiful sunshine. I went quite early, it was quiet and very pleasant. I spent a long time in one shop, and when I came back out the tourists had arrived. Bah. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with tourists per se, I do get intensely irritated when they leave their common sense at home and decide that the pavement is a picnic ground. Apart from that, I had a good day, picked up some supplies and a present for a friend. I'm just surprised at how long I was out!

My new phone is shiny. It took some getting used to, since I've only ever had Nokia phones before. The only thing that's bothered me about it so far is not being able to turn off the shutter noise on the camera. Which really isn't that big a deal. I switched from O2 to Orange, since they were offering the same pay as you go deal as I had, plus free Facebook access which is nice, as is Orange Wednesdays. We were going to see Terminator: Salvation yesterday, but we left it a bit late and it seemed the whole of Enfield was in the queue getting 2 for 1 cinema tickets. D'oh!

So now I'm just relaxing in front of the tv, contemplating a quick pedicure before heading out and meeting Mike to go and be weighed. I think I've lost a lot in the past week, I'm not going to jinx myself by guessing how much though. Then we'll head to the cinema again, even though we'll both have to pay for tickets now. Boo. But we both want to see it now, not in a week, so oh well.

I'm grumpy.

The man in the flat below me is using some kind of power tool, sounds like a saw, on his patio at quarter to eight in the evening. Why? What kind of diy emergency could be so bad that it can't wait until tomorrow during the day when everyone is out, or the weekend?
The upstairs neighbours are stomping around on their lovely laminate flooring that clearly has no underlay. I want to move now. *sigh*

The crappy soundcard in the new mythbox has crapped out again, so I'm listening to music on my macbook. Maybe lots of loud rock will reach the downstairs neighbour through the sawing noise and annoy him enough to go inside.

It's not all bad though. Mike is on his way home from Manchester, and I have some cinnamon and vanilla simmering on the stove making the flat smell yummy. I'm feeling very energetic and creative, along with the grumpiness. I want to go bake. Maybe after work tomorrow, I'll make Mike a cake to relieve my stress from a day of rude customers. Something with cinnamon in.
Have you considered Canada?

Oy. Because if you're going to send poison choccies, it's much easier to find them in the shops, right? No faffing around in the kitchen, making sure you get just the right amount of deadly materials without spoiling the taste.
I think the FDA website has given me brain and eye cancer. Sorry Lyz, looks like I won't be sending you any Bounty bars at the moment.

I just need to vent, I had a bit of a bad day.
I stopped to pet the neighbours cat this morning (super affectionate kitty,) and the bus was early so I missed it. If the kitty hadn't been so darned cute I would've been on time for work. Someone didn't show up for work, and so "the plan" was messed up. It was crazy busy, and customers were just being complete pricks, or incredibly dense, or both. It took me so long to get any work done, and I felt a bit guilty about leaving so much for the few people left to do that I stayed for a bit, getting even more stressed. It's so horrible to be stuck in the middle of a swarm of idiots who seemingly think its ok to ignore or push you because you're wearing a uniform. And I really mean a swarm of people, none of them have any courtesy toward each other so there ends up with a group of self-centered prats blocking two aisles and the main aisle of the store. I did some shopping when I finished my shift and some twat tried to push in in the queue, I missed two 85's to go home because some stupid man with a pram was walking in the middle of the pavement, instead of on one side.
To top it all off, I made myself a cup of tea when I got home, and accidentally kicked it over. *sigh*

I'm glad to have gotten that out. It's badly worded, and I keep making typos, but who cares? I'm going to have a hot bath, and snuggle up on the sofa with my latest cross stitch and watch some SG1. Then all will be right with the world. Unless there's no hot water for a bath, then I'll just cry.
